Teak
Teak wood is a dense, close-grained type of hardwood that is sourced from the Tectona Grandis tree. Teak is originally golden in colour and has a smooth grain and texture. It’s high in natural oils and rubber, meaning it’s strong, durable, and virtually impervious to extreme weather conditions and rotting, even if left untreated.
Mahogany
Mahogany is commonly used for furniture joinery, flooring veneers and musical instruments. There are many species of mahogany, mainly grown in North and Central America. Known for its straight grain and characteristic red brown colour, it polishes and oils very well and can be buffed to a very high shine. An exceptionally durable hardwood, it is the ideal choice for furniture and fittings around the home.
Cedar
Cedar wood comes from Cedar trees. These coniferous trees naturally produce a very fragrant wood that adds to the ambiance of any space, Cedar wood tends to be used for its natural beauty, which means it isn’t typically hidden in the framing of a construction project. With this visual appeal, cedar lends itself to be used in many applications like fencing, decking, siding, and trim. Because of its aromatic smell and natural insect-repellent, some types of cedar can also be used in manufacturing dressers and other clothing storage.
Pitch Pine
Pitch Pine works fairly well with most tools, though the resin can gum up tools and clog sandpaper. Pitch Pine glues and finishes well.
Appamat
Appamat or Appamate is the wood derived from the Pink Poui tree. A large tropical hardwood. The wood is as hard as oak but not as hard as Teak. It is a preferred wood for making furniture. It has good machinability and takes an excellent finish.
